Weekly Outline

 

By the end of this workshop, participants will have
 

  • explored some online tools for image manipulation, photo sharing, storytelling, slideshows and comics creation
  • had an overview of the Creative Commons Licensing
  • seen examples of online activities using images
  • suggested activities based on the tools they explore
  • networked with other participants and shared visually appealing possibilities to manipulate educational content
  • understood the concept of user-generated production
  • understood the potential images have to foster multi-literacies in the 21st century classroom
  • enhanced their media literacy skills to meaningfully incorporate digital production into their lesson plans
  • learned about the revised Bloom's digital taxonomy and applied into their lesson plans
  • created a lesson plan which contemplates the use of online multimedia tools


Week 1  (Jan 12 - 18, 2009)

 

During the first week of the course, participants will

 

  • Join the group meeting place, Ning
  • exchange introductions and become familiar with the group environments
  • add themselves to the group map
  • answer a survey to determine their experience with online tools
  • create their Flickr account and join the images4education group on Flickr
  • explore Flickr basic features

 

Week 2  (Jan 19 - 25, 2009)

 

During this week, participants will

 

  • understand the basics of tagging on Flickr
  • upload and organize their first photos
  • explore more advanced features in Flickr
  • play around with various Flickr Toys
  • read about using Flickr as a pedagogical tool
  • see examples of Flickr as a pedagogical tool
  • share their own ideas of Flickr use in the classroom
  • learn about the Creative Commons licensing
  • search for Creative Commons photos in Flickr under a certain topic

Week 3    (Jan 26 - Feb 1, 2009)

 

During this week, participants will

  • have an overview of online slideshows tools
  • see examples of slideshows being used in the educational setting
  • choose, at least, two slideshows platforms to be used for the same purpose and compare them
  • take some of their flickr photos and send them to a slideshow

Extension: using digital multimedia platforms in the classroom

 

 

Week 4     (Feb 02 - 08, 2009)

 

During this week, participants will

  • read about digital storytelling
  • see examples of digital storytelling being used in the educational setting
  • check different digital storytelling tools that can be used in the classroom
  • create their own stories using a tool of their choice

 

Week 5     (Feb 09 -15, 2009)

 

During this week participants will:

  • share their digital stories
  • read about the revisited Bloom's taxonomy, Bloom's Digital Taxonomy
  • prepare a lesson plan that incorporates digital media into their content area to transform it to a  21st century lesson

Week 6       (Feb 16 - 22, 2009)

 

During this week participants will:

  • check and comment each other's lesson plans
  • assess their own learning during the session
  • evaluate the workshop
